Dauphin Island Watershed Management Plan Completed
Mobile, AL – The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) announces completion of the Dauphin Island Watershed Management Plan (WMP). The WMP is a comprehensive plan that outlines strategies for protecting and restoring Dauphin Island. Chris Warn of Environmental Science Associates presented an overview of the plan at the MBNEP Project Implementation Committee meeting last week.
The WMP was developed over two years with input from a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, businesses, government agencies, and environmental organizations. The plan identifies a number of priority areas for action, including improving water quality, conservation and restoration of critical habitats, preserving cultural heritage, enhancing community and environmental resilience, and providing for public access.
“The Dauphin Island Watershed Plan is a critical tool for protecting our coastal resources,” said MBNEP Public Sector Program Lead, Christian Miller. “This plan will help us to identify and address the most pressing challenges facing the Island and will be instrumental in efforts to preserve this special place for future generations.”
The Dauphin Island WMP is available for download on the MBNEP website.
The mission of the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) is to promote the wise stewardship of the water quality and living resources of Alabama’s estuaries and coasts. MBNEP is one of 28 federally authorized estuary programs in the United States.
