Program Leader - Monitoring & Science
Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, dedicated to promoting the wise stewardship of Alabama’s Estuaries and coast, is seeking a highly skilled Monitoring and Science Program Lead for our Management Conference. The successful candidate will help us build a robust environmental monitoring program and better integrate science into local resource decision-making with a goal of conserving the things people value about living along the Alabama Coast: Access, Shorelines, Fish and Wildlife, Heritage, and Culture, Environmental and Community Resilience; and Swimmable and Fishable Waters. The Monitoring & Science Program Lead will: Build and support the Science Advisory Committee through recruitment of key individuals who can help guide the development of programs to change corporate behaviors negatively impacting coastal resources; Engage science community in supporting CCMP-related initiatives; Provide program development including but not limited to drafting, research, analysis, facilitation, and funding of projects identified in the requisite section of the CCMP and related recommendations from watershed plans; Educate target audiences about issues affecting the Alabama coast and activities being undertaken to mitigate stress on coastal resources. MBNEP is a non-regulatory program of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and one of 28 national estuary programs around the country.
Qualifications: Minimum of a BS in earth sciences, engineering or related field; A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental field assessments, monitoring data analysis or other related fields; Experience in the use of Geographical Information Systems and database management is required; Effective communication through cartography is preferred; Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a wide range of individuals and groups; Ability to work with minimal supervision.
