Notice for Request for Qualifications: Fowl River Marsh and Shoreline Restoration Project

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab/Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (OWNER) is seeking qualification packages from marine contractors for phased, thin-layer placement of sediment to nourish the marsh spits in Fowl River. The work will be completed in up to three (3) phases over a five-year period allowing the marsh vegetation to recover after each phase between thin-layer placements. The project extents span from Shrout Marsh Spit at Oxford Road, down-river to the spit opposite of Bellingrath Gardens at Bebee Point Drive. The work will place thin-layer sediment (6’ - 8” thick) in phased applications over the five (5) priority marsh spits identified in the Fowl River Watershed Management Plan. In addition to the marsh nourishment, the shorelines will be restored with a combination of rip rap sill and timber wave screen. Once the qualification process is complete, the base bid and any bid alternates will be issued to the qualified list of respondents with Phase 1 of the work to be completed between January 1, 2023, and May 1, 2024.
