The Planning
The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) has partnered with Environmental Science Associates (ESA), Thompson Engineering, and Barry Vittor & Associates to develop a Watershed Management Plan (WMP) for Dauphin Island. The purpose of the WMP is to guide watershed resource managers, policy makers, community organizations, and citizens in protecting the environmental and cultural integrity of the Island to ensure that these resources are preserved for future generations.
The WMP will chart a conceptual course for improving or protecting the things people value most about living along the Alabama coast, including: Water Quality; Fish and Wildlife; Environmental Health and Resilience; Public Access; Heritage and Culture; and Beaches and Shorelines. Each WMP identifies issues and data gaps related to watershed conditions; provides an implementation program that recommends a prioritized list of actions to improve water quality, ecological integrity, and resiliency; and includes a project implementation schedule, interim milestones, ways to measure or monitor progress, an education/outreach plan, and identification of technical and financial resources needed to address implementation success.
